Making a Baby … Registry, That Is

July 13, 2011

Next week one of my good friends is throwing me a baby shower. I’m pretty excited for a number of reasons. Lots of food, a bunch of my friends, and I got to make a baby registry!

In making my registry, I’ve found out exactly how much stuff I don’t still have from last time! We kept the carseat, the pack n play (thank God!), the stroller, and all of SJ’s baby clothes. We didn’t, however keep the bassinet (where will she sleep for the first month?), the highchair (our kitchen table is a bar table with padded stools), the baby tub (we have tiny sinks), the swing (used the ever-living crap out of that), and the list goes on. All that stuff went to really good homes of people that really needed it, so I’m not too sad that we gave (mostly gave) it away.

I never really thought I’d be having a baby shower for baby #2 (that’s fairly taboo, right?), but I didn’t actually have one out here with my friends for SJ, so here we are.  In light of that, for the past week or so I’ve been working on my registry. It’s amazing the amount of stuff that babies need (I registered for baby wipes and 15 packages of diapers in assorted sizes), and some of the stuff that you can completely live without, but is just so cool/cute that you just Have to put it on the list (a round bassinet and pink nursing coverups).

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about baby showers it’s not to under-register. There’s always more cute/frilly/practical stuff that you can put on the list. I’ve registered for a lot of the smaller, very necessary stuff (the diapers, wipes, diaper genie refills etc.) I have a couple of bigger ticket items on there, too, such as the round bassinet and a really cute swing. You never know what people are going to want to get for you, or if a few of the guests are wanting to pitch in together for something more expensive to help you out.

I’m really looking forward to the party, my friends, everyone ogling my giant belly. 🙂 Baby showers are just so much fun, no matter if you’re the shower-ee or one of the shower-ers .  I can’t wait till I can throw my first shower for one of my friends!
